![]() First step was to remove the Cobalt front "hooks" on the front, two larger rivets to drill out and remove:īought some 16 gauge steel at Menards in small sections, cut using my templates, trying to make big enough to retain strength but not be too obnoxious looking and used original holes in the Cobalt track, the rear most holes that are bolted to the floor of the Cobalt and the 2nd(or 3rd?) from front hole already in the track, where the front hooks were located. So I went to work, creating a cardboard template to compare the Cobalt tracks to the mount locations for the g-body. I always wonder with so many people putting in newer seats in g-bodies, I know some here have really well thought out modifications and tracks but some, especially on FB, I often wonder how they are slapped in (wood and self tapping screws?). Now the fun of getting them to fit and fit properly. A little dirty but not too bad and only normal wear and some very minor damaged spots. I looked online and happened to find a yard with an 06' that had them (the Recaro option isn't common), no pics nor could they provide any so I made the one hour trip and was pleasantly surprised, pretty good shape and the car was still sealed up, didn't look like it had been there too long. I'd love to be able to lower the seat a little more to be able to fit better. So I remember seeing this thread by JAWSS: http:/ / community/ ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=811431 which I liked at the time, didn't really pursue it or think much of it but filed it in the back of my mind for maybe someday, fast forward to this June and I saw JAWSS old SS for sale on a FB group (car looked the same) and it put a spark in my behind. Guen's leather sure looks pretty but it hurts my back after more than 30-45 min, and. We hit a straight part and I let him zip around (ok, I may have flat out floored it for a second or two of “what the hell?” reaction from the J-hole) and then stayed right behind him as he attempted to out drive the big blue truck. My example: It was an absolute BLAST gluing myself to the bumper (exaggerating, I despise tailgating, never do it myself) of some Subaru driving J-hole that just HAD to stay right on my ass for like 15-20 minutes as we came down the twisties on Hwy 50 through the Sierras. She also has the brakes and suspension to go with that power! 0-60 in ~6 seconds in something that big can be just as much fun as our cars at times (as long as you don't contemplate the gas wasted). still, comeon!ĭon't get me wrong either, Tundara is a BEAST. Oh and OMG how the hell did they not do bed vibration tests?!? (Google/You Tube "Tundra Bed Bounce") Yes, I know, she's a road truck. Tundara has one sun shade and it's 6" shy of covering the whole side window and a good foot shy of meeting the anorexic rear view mirror. My 99 Expy has dual sun shades that are VERY adequate for the vehicle. with a rear view mirror that's the same size as the Sky's! GIANT Crew Max Tundara (nickname, not a typo). Why in the heck couldn't I have fallen in love with a Ford, or a Toyota? NOTHING surprises me about ANY choices made by GM. Dad just fixed any of the dumb stuff so they never became issues.įast forward to now, and the years I've been reading about this platform, and the way GM handled the bankrupcy and brand closures. I grew up in GM products so either they didn't do the stupid crap back then, or I didn't notice (being a kid), or. No real issue with seat height though, I designed the bracket to minimize any additional vertical height.Ĭlick to expand. That's funny. I'm not going to mess with the driver side. Probably not worth it though since it she is such a beauty. I may tinker around with getting her slimmed down but that would require the seat fabric to be removed, the foam shaved down and then the fabric restiched. Also on the seat cushion contacts the trans tunnel at the front of the seat cushion which will limit how far forward the seat will slide. It has a bit too much foam padding so it interfers with the door when you close it (although it will close, but it compresses the seat cushion and will cause wear really quickly on the seat. The new seat cushion is centered with respect to the rails like the OEM. I pulled the OEM passenger seat, retained the stock rails, and fabed some simple aluminum brakcets to install my Milano (Black Alcantara). Actually it is the front part of the seat. The Milano is a street performance seat though, sparco's real race seats are narrower with more lateral support and overall narrower bottom. Yep she's got too much padding in the as* section.
